About This Calculator

This is a bottom-up grocery budgeting tool for anyone who wants to know what their real grocery list actually costs per week — meal preppers buying in bulk, budget-conscious shoppers comparing bulk vs. single-serving prices, or anyone sanity-checking a shopping trip against a weekly budget before they're standing in the store.

Target servings is how often you actually go through an item, not how much the package holds. Set it per day or per week, whichever is easier to think in — it's normalized to a weekly figure internally so every item paces out consistently. A $12 bag of rice eaten at 3 servings a week paces very differently than one eaten at 3 servings a day, even though the purchase price is identical; target servings is what captures that difference.

Search covers roughly 300 common grocery items — the same bundled database used in Bowl Builder — plus anything already in your saved Foods. It's meant to make quick entry convenient for everyday staples, not to be an exhaustive product catalog. If something isn't covered, add it manually with + Add a custom item — the math works exactly the same either way.

See the Guides page for additional details.

How Grocery Budget Calculator Works

Add an item by searching our foods or tapping + Add a custom item, then enter its Cost per serving directly — or use the bulk-price helper below it (total price paid ÷ total servings in the package) to calculate it automatically as you type.

Set Target Servings — how many servings you actually go through per day or per week — and your Paced Weekly Budget and Paced Monthly Budget at the top of the page update live, along with each item's own paced weekly cost. Nothing here needs a button press.

Save Plan keeps your whole list under a name you choose. Once you've opened a saved plan, Save as New appears so you can keep the original untouched and save your changes as a separate plan instead. New Plan clears the working list to start fresh.

Like the rest of Nawtch, everything you build and save here stays stored locally in this browser only. Nothing is sent to a server or account.

Planning Estimate vs. Your Actual Spending

This tool is a planning and estimation tool — it's entirely separate from the weekly spend total shown on your Today page, which reflects your actual logged food entries. Building a plan here never reads from or writes to your real logging history, and saving a plan doesn't log anything or affect your tracked spending.

Searching here is also read-only where your saved Foods are concerned: items marked with a ★ come from your saved Foods, and selecting one copies its name and cost-per-serving into a new line item as a starting point. Adjusting cost or servings on this page afterward never changes the actual food entry on your Foods page.
